Every day, someone struggling with mental health challenges asks: Is recovery even possible?
At Crescent Moon Center, the answer is always “yes!”
Crescent Moon Center is a place for healing through horses and art. Our mission is to build a community of support around people in recovery from mental health challenges including stress, trauma, addiction, and disability. Participants consistently describe our program as “life-changing.” We offer an empowering path towards healing, resilience and growth.
Crescent Moon Center’s program is inspired by scientific research into the healing power of creative expression and guided interaction with horses for holistic wellness. It reaches deep inside to a person’s authenticity and fosters self-discovery and reflection from many different perspectives. It is also program where everyone feels a sense of belonging; It is for people who feel they do not have a voice but who can express themselves through art and engagement with horses.
Crescent Moon Center is a grass-roots nonprofit that brings trauma-informed equine-assisted learning and creative arts experiences to people who often do not have access to holistic wellness support.
In partnership with horses, who are our teachers, you discover your unique authenticity and creative voice. We combine equine-assisted learning, mindfulness, and a range of workshops in visual art, poetic medicine, music, movement, and other expressive practices. We create a safe space where you can learn how to change adversity into meaningful possibilities for community engagement, personal and professional development.
Community Impact
Thanks to the generosity of partners, volunteers, and donors, Crescent Moon Center brought our innovative experiential programs to over 350 participants seeking healing and holistic wellness in 2025. Through our Community Partners Program, we increased accessibility. 86% of participants are from underserved and marginalized communities – BIPOC, low-income, and disabled.
Our experiential programs teach proven, science-based tools for recovery and meet people where they are. Participants reported 84% improved emotional awareness, 85% improved coping skills, 90% improved healthy relating.
These are not abstract outcomes; they are vital shifts in perspective and learning skills that change lives, increase connection to community, and support long-term recovery. Our testimonies are echoed across our programs and reflect measurable shifts in well-being.
After working with the horses, a participant said “I learned so much from …the horses. That was one of the most powerful things I have ever experienced.”
Help Our Community Partner Program Grow
Our program is hosted at Rush Ranch, in Suisun City, CA, a 2070- acre nature preserve, thanks to the generosity of our community partners, the Solano Land Trust and Access Adventure. To make our workshops more accessible, we bring our creative arts workshops to partner’s locations around the greater Bay Area.
Whatever you can contribute EVERY donation matters. We are asking you to help us raise $25,000 and grow our Community Partners Program to:
- Strengthen our facilitator and volunteer training program to create a peer-support community with a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed approach.
- Build partnerships so more low-income and marginalized communities can access our transformative holistic wellness programs at no-cost.
- Help provide ongoing community engagement, peer support, and volunteer training for participants to build life skills while giving back to their community.
- Art Exhibits featuring equine-assisted creative expression at hospitals, galleries, and community organizations around the greater Bay Area.
