For the longest time, I had always wanted to learn how to ride horses. One day, I saw a poster for riding lessons with Healing with Horses Zimbabwe and immediately called to book my first session.
What felt like a simple personal goal quickly became something much deeper.
Riding challenged me in ways I didn’t expect. Learning as an adult, pushing through discomfort, and building confidence in something completely new. But beyond that, it became a space of healing. Horses are incredibly intuitive. They sense your emotions, meet you where you are, and create a quiet, grounding connection that is hard to explain until you experience it yourself.
Whenever I felt overwhelmed or stressed, spending time with the horses – especially my favourite, Fizzpop – brought a sense of calm and clarity that genuinely shifted my mental state.
Everything changed for me when I began volunteering.
Watching children, many of whom arrive anxious, withdrawn, or carrying deep emotional challenges – interact with the horses was something I will never forget. In that safe, non-judgmental space, I saw real transformation: children softening, smiling, regulating their emotions, and beginning to trust again.
That’s when I realised this work is so much bigger than riding.
Healing with Horses Zimbabwe is a not-for-profit organisation that provides equine-assisted services and support to vulnerable children navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, neurodiversity, and difficult life circumstances. Each week, they support over 150 children, many of whom receive this care completely free of charge. These sessions are not just moments, they are part of a consistent, relationship-based approach that helps build confidence, emotional regulation, and long-term resilience.
In Zimbabwe’s current economic climate, access to this kind of specialised care is extremely limited. That’s why community support is so important.
I’ve chosen to become a Fundraising Ambassador for Healing with Horses Zimbabwe, because I believe deeply in the impact of their work. It aligns with who I am, someone who values healing, connection, and giving back, especially to those who need it most.
My goal is to raise $500, but truly, I would love to go far beyond that.
Your support is not just a donation, it helps a child access a safe space, build trust, and experience hope. It also supports the wellbeing of the therapy horses and the environment that makes this work possible.
Together, we can keep this door open for every child who needs it.
