Spring Reins of Life, has moved!
Founded in 2012, and based in central New Jersey since, Spring Reins of Life has provided equine-assisted psychotherapy services to trauma survivors: at-risk /high-risk youth, military veterans with PTS/TBI and their families, victims of domestic violence, and more. All of our services have been provided for no cost or very low cost thanks to public and private tax-deductible donations.
SRoL is dedicated to promoting psychological healing, emotional well-being, and personal growth using the skills of mental health professionals and the assistance of horses. For thousands of years, there has been a unique bond between humans and horses, it is our mission to enhance and leverage this bond to reach individuals who are suffering from the effects of trauma and who are struggling with the combined stressors and obstacles set forth by enduring traumatic events or abuse. The horses are here to help find ways out of the darkness and into the light.
The organization has struggled since being shut down during the COVID19 pandemic. More recently, its partner organizations lost funding when government grant funds were frozen or rescinded by DOGE. That led to the cancellation of several sessions of programing, further hindering the operation.
Then a donor offered to provide a new home and an equestrian center in Troy, Virginia. Due to some legal issues, Spring Reins programs will be on hold in Virginia. We are planning a veteran’s retreat in New Jersey this summer or fall. Funds raised in this campaign will support that retreat so veterans can attend at no cost, and also help us sort out the issues of registering in Virginia.
Christiana Capra will remain as program director.
The horses, Syriana and three donkeys, Edith, Gloria, and GusArchie, have arrived in Virginia and are settling in. Molly is staying in New Jersey for the foreseeable future.
Sadly, we lost both Chubby and Junior Mif in recent months.
The website will remain the same, www.springreinsoflife.org.
