This May, I am participating in the 2026 Horses for Mental Health campaign to raise awareness and critical funds for equine-assisted services. While traditional talk therapy is life-changing for many, there is a unique, non-verbal breakthrough that happens when a human connects with a horse.
Why Horses?
Horses are intuitive “mirrors.” As prey animals, they are hyper-sensitive to our emotions and non-verbal cues. They don’t judge our past, our job titles, or our appearances—they respond purely to our authentic energy in the present moment.
-
Emotional Regulation: Working with a 1,200-pound animal naturally builds confidence and presence.
-
Trust Building: For those recovering from trauma, veterans, or children in crisis, horses provide a safe space to practice trust and connection.
-
Biological Impact: Science shows that interacting with horses can lower cortisol and increase oxytocin
Why I’m Raising Money
Over the past three years, equine therapy hasn’t just been a hobby for me – it has been a vital part of my own journey. When I first walked into the arena, I didn’t realize how much a horse could teach me about myself. Over the last three years, these incredible animals have become my partners in healing. They’ve helped me navigate grief, finding my grounded center, and practice a level of presence that is hard to find in our fast-paced world. I’ve experienced firsthand how animals can reach parts of our hearts that words cannot. Having experienced the shift that happens when a horse “mirrors” your emotions, I am more committed than ever to making sure others have the same opportunity. I’m raising money to pay it forward :).
Where the Money Goes
One of the reasons I chose this specific campaign is that 100% of the funds raised go directly to the non-profit program partners. Your donation helps provide specialized care for the therapy horses (veterinary care, nutrition) while also helping us reach more people in the community.
