Many people in Sussex and surrounding rural communities are living with the effects of trauma, anxiety, grief, and stress — yet access to supportive, nature-based mental health services remains almost nonexistent.
Waterford Equine-Assisted Healing (WEAH) is filling that gap.
We are a nonprofit based in Sussex, NB, providing trauma-informed, consent-based equine-assisted mental health sessions for people living with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and chronic stress. Our licensed clinicians and certified facilitators guide non-riding sessions where healing happens through connection — with horses, with self, and with the present moment.
Every session begins with choice. Some people are ready to explore their story through reflection and conversation. Others need quiet connection with the horses first — to breathe, settle, and feel safe in their body.
Our approach integrates story-based and body-based practices grounded in trauma-informed principles.
The Reality
Rural communities are underserved. Waitlists are long. Traditional therapy doesn’t work for everyone. And equine-assisted mental health services are almost nonexistent here.
Why Your Support Matters
We keep our services accessible through sliding-scale pricing because cost should never be a barrier to healing. That means community support is essential to make this work sustainable.
Your donation helps us:
• Provide subsidized sessions for individuals and families who need financial support
• Partner with organizations serving survivors, youth, and families
• Care for and maintain the wellbeing of our therapy horses • Sustain a safe, welcoming space where regulation and resilience can grow
We launch Spring 2026. With your help, we can bring accessible, evidence-informed, nature-based mental health support to rural communities that desperately need it.
Because healing happens in connection. And horses know how to meet us exactly where we are.
