A year and a half ago, my fiancé and I made the decision to move from Florida, to Saratoga Springs. An absolutely terrifying choice starting over again at 30, leaving the people I loved- but Mother Nature hadn’t left us with much of one after Hurricane Helene.
Never would I have imagined to find such love, so quickly in such an amazing community that is Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga. Between the staff, volunteers and friends the organization has collected; it really became evident how important this work was. I didn’t take long for me to understand after being welcomed with open arms to learn what it was like working with these unbelievable animals. I knew when we moved to Saratoga, I wanted an opportunity to work with or around horses as they’re such a huge part of the life here and was intent on being apart of the community.
Quickly I learned that horses aren’t just for fun watching at the track, the ability that they have to heal us as humans is something I never understood. But I do now, losing our home, and moving away from our community, friends and loved ones was quite honestly traumatic. However, through working at the farm I have been able to find peace amongst these majestic horses, that have created a calmness I could only hope to find again.
Horses for Mental Health is something I hope everyone has an opportunity to experience and with the assistance of donations we’re able to continue work for those in need.
