To support MyDun, the first community-funded rescue horse for Horse Sense Education & Advocacy. This effort reflects both a commitment to responsible horse stewardship and a belief that the community can play a meaningful role in supporting the care and well-being of rescued horses.
My involvement with Horse Sense Education & Advocacy began through a personal shift in perspective about horsemanship. Like many riders, I was originally introduced to horseback riding through methods that relied heavily on dominance and pressure to control a horse’s behavior. Through the work of the nonprofit, and particularly through Kristin Praly’s approach, I was introduced to an alternative philosophy grounded in communication, trust, and relationship. This approach emphasizes partnership rather than force, creating a safer and more respectful experience for both horse and human. Witnessing this work firsthand has been deeply inspiring and has strengthened my commitment to supporting the organization’s advocacy and educational mission.
MyDun represents the beginning of a community-supported rescue model, where individuals can participate directly in supporting a horse’s care while also benefiting from the connection horses can offer. To make this possible, we are establishing The MyDun Coffee Club, a membership program that allows supporters to contribute $10 per month toward MyDun’s care.
Members of the Coffee Club will have access to spend time with MyDun at the Felton Covered Bridge Equestrian Center and participate in the quiet, therapeutic experiences that horses can provide. These visits are intended to offer space for reflection, grounding, and meaningful interaction with a horse within the framework of Horse Sense Education & Advocacy’s trust-based approach to horsemanship.
Funds raised will support the care of this first community-funded rescue horse and help demonstrate a model where education, advocacy, and community participation come together to support both horses and people.
