I’m raising money because Special C.H.E.E.R.S. is our happy place, our second home.
Danny has been riding and receiving occupational therapy services for more than 18 years, what started as a therapy has become his happy place. As soon as we arrive, he starts to move his head and smile. The sounds of nature, the animals on the farm give us all a sense of peace and belonging.
Special C.H.E.E.R.S. uses rescue horses in a 240-acre setting with equine-assisted services for emotional healing and personal growth in a warm, welcoming environment. This place is different. Dr. Fritzi uses a holistic approach to look at her patients and their specific needs. They help Danny strengthen his body, improve his balance, regulate emotional behavior, discover a newfound confidence, but especially, he is treated with love and dignity.
Since Danny has become an adult, he has transitioned out of pediatric therapies. Every private OT therapist we had tried required Danny to improve; however, in his case, no more progress can be expected. He has a degenerative genetic condition, so what he needs is to hold on to what he can do, such as crawling and sitting up, for as long as possible. This is the only place that continues seeing him without questions.
Special C.H.E.E.R.S. is a nonprofit organization, who needs all of our support. They handle the horse’s food, care, property and upkeep. The staff, who are all incredibly caring and knowledgeable, and the healing that happens there is something special. I can’t express my gratitude enough for this wonderful organization. We are very lucky to have found a beautiful community and more importantly, a family.
