I’m a UK-based veterinary surgeon—but long before that, I was a child growing up at an equine rehabilitation centre in Zimbabwe.
I’ve seen first-hand how horses that have been through hardship can recover and heal—and how, in turn, they help heal people.
This centre rescues, rehabilitates, and retrains horses—many of whom would not survive without intervention. But it doesn’t stop there. These same horses go on to support vulnerable people through equine-assisted programmes, creating a space where healing happens on both sides.
This isn’t just a charity I support—it’s where I grew up. But more than that, it represents something deeply personal to me.
I’ve been in a place where things felt… heavy. Where getting through the day wasn’t simple. And I’ve experienced first-hand how animals—especially horses—can pull you back from that edge. Not by fixing everything, but by giving you something steady, something real, something that doesn’t ask anything of you except that you show up.
That’s why this matters.
Places like this create that space—for people who need it most. And while it’s based in Zimbabwe, its impact reaches far beyond that, through education, internships, and the simple truth that this kind of connection is universal.
