Mental health challenges are affecting more children, youth, veterans, and families than ever before — and in rural communities, access to support can be limited. At Hooves of Hope Youth Empowerment & Animal Rescue, we see firsthand how trauma, anxiety, and emotional distress impact individuals who often feel unseen or unheard.
We also recognize the growing crisis among those who care for others. Nurses, doctors, firefighters, police officers, and paramedics face daily exposure to trauma, high stress, and emotional exhaustion. Many carry invisible wounds, with rising rates of burnout, PTSD, and mental health struggles.
Even within the animal care community, the need is urgent. Veterinarians face one of the highest suicide rates among professions — a heartbreaking reality that reflects the emotional toll of their work.
We are raising funds through the Horses for Mental Health campaign to expand access to trauma-informed, equine-assisted mental health programming in Northern New Brunswick. Your support helps provide scholarships for individuals who cannot afford services, ensures the ongoing care and rehabilitation of our rescued horses, and strengthens programming that creates safe, supportive spaces for healing.
For many participants, healing doesn’t begin in an office — it begins beside a horse. These gentle animals help build trust, regulate emotions, and restore confidence in ways traditional settings sometimes cannot.
Every dollar raised directly supports both the people and the horses who make this life-changing work possible.
Together, we are proving that broken animals can help heal broken people.
