Animals have been a source of protection for me throughout my life, both physically and mentally. My dog(s) and cat during my childhood were essentially my siblings. We formed a close-knit group. We slept together, we played together – they were by my side at all times in the house. They were the keepers of my secrets, fears, and dreams. I have firsthand experience of their healing capabilities.
I recall attending “horse camp” in my youth, where I fell in love with my horse named “Rabbit.” I never resorted to hitting her to encourage her to gallop; we essentially followed her lead, which coincidentally aligned with my own desires. I was content to be in her company, even if it meant being at the back of the group. She too held my secrets. My affection for her was profound, and I wept when it was time to part ways. Years later, I had the opportunity to ride alongside a mentor, and I found comfort in discussing my thoughts…because I was confiding in the horse. My friend. I chose One Heart Wild because I resonate with their mission to offer a permanent sanctuary for animals while also providing therapeutic assistance to humans through the integration of mental health care and equine-assisted therapy. I am very aware that the expenses associated with caring for these extraordinary beings are soaring. Additionally, the demand for mental health support across all demographics and professions is increasing every day. We are navigating a frightening era, and the need for healing is paramount.
