I have a son that was born with developmental disabilities. I became a champion for our son and the disability and Mental Health community. That included a lot of work in the community.
But going back into my family history also includes Mental Health issues. My great grandma’s sister was committed to Mendocino State Asylum for the Insane. She was a young school teacher that had Psychiatry issues and ended up living the remainder of her life in the institution. My grandma suffered from paranoia. My mother had lifelong OCD issues that I clearly remember. My son and myself have had lifelong anxiety issues.
I am so happy that Mental Health has a voice in the world now. I sadly remember my family members that suffered and how I wish they were still alive to share their voices and to have mental health options available, such as HMH (Horses for Mental Health).
This is such an important and necessary campaign that I whole heartedly support!!!
My son’s girlfriend is on the Spectrum and when we met, she was very timid and reserved. We heard about Reins of Hope at JT Ranch. We met Tom and Jacki at “Reins of Hope at JT Ranch” and the transition that we saw was phenomenal. At first, she was hesitant, but each visit she has gained assurance and confidence! It has made an astounding difference! I highly recommend “Reins of Hope at JT Ranch” for anyone with Mental Health or disabilities. It’s been a life changing experience!

HEALTH: Horsepower: How horses are therapeutic (Video)
Horses can form powerful bonds with people owing to their ability to sense and feel human emotions. Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship, in Bedford Corners, N.Y., has programs that help people with disabilities, veterans with PTSD, and the incarcerated through interactions with their horses. “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl reports.
I encourage you to look into your heart and make a contribution to help this very important fundraiser. I did and I made a contribution for my past, current and future beloved family members.
