Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Horses for Mental Health (HMH) Campaign?
The Horses for Mental Health Campaign is an annual global peer-to-peer fundraising movement held each May during Mental Health Awareness Month.
It brings together equine-assisted services programs worldwide to:
- Raise awareness about mental health and well-being
- Expand access to services incorporating horses
- Mobilize communities to take action
Organizations apply to participate as Program Partners and are reviewed to ensure they uphold:
- High ethical standards for both humans and horses
- Professionally trained and qualified practitioners
- A history of providing services
- Proper nonprofit status or fiscal sponsorship
Once approved, programs fundraise throughout May by inviting donors and Fundraising Ambassadors to support their mission.
100% of the funds raised by each program go directly to that program.
HMH provides the platform, training, national media and celebrity visibility, and professional marketing resources to help programs succeed. Our infrastructure is supported by sponsors and donors, including our Title Sponsor, Zoetis.
Together, we are expanding access to healing, connection, and hope through the powerful presence of horses.

What is Meaningful About Being a Fundraising Ambassador?
Being a Fundraising Ambassador means you are choosing to actively advocate for and support a specific Program Partner by creating your own fundraising goal on their behalf.
During May, Mental Health Awareness Month, you reach out to your family, friends, and networks to share your passion for how horses impact mental health and well-being — and why supporting this particular program matters to you.
As an Ambassador, you help raise awareness of the difference this program is making in the community. You become a bridge between your community and the program you believe in — a voice for how this work is changing the lives of both humans and horses.
You uplift the incredible work they are doing to expand access to services, care for their horses, and support the people they serve.
To become a Fundraising Ambassador, choose a Program by visiting their team page. Click “Join the Team as an Ambassador” and follow the steps to register and create your fundraising page. You’ll receive a login and gain access to the HMH Campaign Dashboard, where you’ll find resources and tools to support you along the way.
