I’m proud to be part of the Horses for Mental Health campaign this year, and I’m teaming up with Belle, one of our therapy horses whose calm, grounding presence makes her a powerful partner in healing.
Belle has a quiet way of helping people feel safe. She doesn’t rush or overwhelm—she simply meets you where you are. For many of the individuals we serve, especially those experiencing anxiety, trauma, or emotional overwhelm, that steady presence can make all the difference. When words are hard to find, Belle creates space for clients to slow down, breathe, and begin to feel regulated again.
At STEPS with Horses, we believe healing doesn’t always start with conversation—it often begins with connection. Through equine-assisted counseling, horses like Belle help people rebuild trust, process challenges, and reconnect with themselves in ways that are honest and deeply impactful.
This work is especially meaningful to me personally. As the Equine Manager at STEPS, I’ve had a passion for horses for as long as I can remember, and life has led me to this nonprofit that truly speaks to my heart. I’ve always found it easier to connect with horses—they have a quiet, genuine way of being that helps me feel centered and understood. Being part of this work, and seeing horses like Belle help others find that same sense of connection and calm, is something I care deeply about.
Belle does this work every day, quietly supporting each person who walks into the pasture. She can’t tell her story—but I can help share what makes her so special.
