I’m proud to be part of the Horses for Mental Health campaign this year, and I’m teaming up with Max, one of our therapy horses and the confident leader of our herd.
Max is steady, intuitive, and incredibly aware of what’s happening around him. As the herd leader, he sets the tone—helping both horses and people feel safe, grounded, and regulated. Clients are often drawn to him because of that presence, and he doesn’t hesitate to step in when someone needs connection or support.
At STEPS with Horses, our work is built around these kinds of interactions. Through equine-assisted counseling, horses like Max help people navigate stress, trauma, and life challenges in ways that are experiential, honest, and deeply impactful. Max does the work every day, but he can’t explain it—so I’m doing my best to share what makes him so important.
Your support goes directly toward the care of horses like Max and helps ensure that clients can continue to access these services. It also helps us grow sustainably so we can reach more people who need this work.
If you feel connected to Max or the work we’re doing, I’d love for you to be part of it.
Together, we can continue creating space for healing, connection, and growth—for both people and the horses who make it possible. 🐴
