Equine Occupational Therapy and Therapeutic Riding are essential for emotional regulation, social emotional development through the establishment of a mutual relationship with your horse, self care as a rider learns their own and their animal's strengths and areas of growth, mind-body connection through understanding the need to listen to one's body to be in relationship to your horse, and finally the importance of creating an attentive and trusting relationship with one's instructors.
My own relationships with horses as a child taught me independence, my capacity for love and compassion, my strength, and the emotional gift of having a horse love you back. My connection to my horse, Brandy, began my healing journey from childhood sexual abuse and alleviated my symptoms or anxiety and depression by offering an opportunity to care for another and begin to feel hope in relationships.
