Why We Are Raising Money
At Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue, healing is a partnership — between horse and human.
We are raising funds during this one-month Horse for Mental Health campaign to sustain and protect the rescued horses who make our mental health programs possible. Many of the individuals we serve — veterans, first responders, at-risk youth, women overcoming trauma, and community members facing anxiety, depression, grief, and emotional dysregulation — have not found relief in traditional models alone. Horses offer something different. They offer presence. Honesty. Regulation. Connection without judgment.
But this healing work depends on the wellbeing of the horses themselves.
It costs $1,733 every single day to operate the farm — more than $52,000 this month alone — to provide:
-
Hay, grain, and specialized senior nutrition
-
Veterinary, dental, and farrier care
-
Safe fencing, shelter, and utilities
-
Professional, trauma-informed programming
-
Lifelong sanctuary for 42 rescued horses
Many of our horses are retired Thoroughbreds and seniors who cannot be ridden or rehomed, yet they continue to serve as teachers and healers simply through interaction. Protection for them means lifelong care.
Over the next 30 days, we are working to raise $52,000 — one full month of operations — so that rescued horses remain healthy, regulated partners and mental health programming remains accessible to those who need it most.
When you give, you are doing two things at once:
You are protecting a horse.
And you are creating access to mental health support for someone who needs it.
People helping horses.
Horses helping people heal.
This is the circle of healing you are investing in. 💙
